Orlando is served by the Orange County Public Schools district, which has over 160,000 students, making it the fifth largest district in Florida and the twelfth largest district in the U.S. There are 114 elementary schools, 35 middle schools, and 17 high schools in this district as of 2007. There are many private schools in Orlando as well, including Trinity Preparatory School, Lake Highland Preparatory School, and Bishop Moore High School.
There are many colleges, universities, and other institutions of higher education in and around Orlando. The University of Central Florida in Orlando is the sixth-largest university in the U.S., and awards bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, doctorates, certificates, and specialist degrees. Rollins College in adjacent Winter Park is one of the oldest recognized colleges in Florida and has more than 1,700 undergraduate students.
